A business card holder is designed to easily file away the cards for future reference, or to keep a supply of them on hand to pass out. They can be customized to suit any taste, from fancy designs and bold colors to finely engraved covers. Some companies have their logo printed on them and handed out to employees as part of their marketing plan.

The most basic type is one small enough to fit in a pocket or purse. Generally, this kind is used by professionals to keep a supply of their own cards in stock to give to potential clients or contacts. They are often made out of leather or metal, and usually will only fit about twenty five cards.

Small metal or plastic ones can be found on the front counter of many kinds of businesses, such as auto repair shops, doctors' offices or even home improvement stores. Some are also made out of wire mesh. Larger businesses will provide these kinds for their employees to keep on their desks or at their work stations.

The next larger size is usually made out of vinyl or leather. It is more of an organizer, and is often carried around in a brief case or purse. These kind look like more of a thin book and hold around ninety or so cards.

Loose leaf binders are designed to hold hundreds of cards, and are used by larger companies who need to keep track of a large number of contacts. Lost information can mean lost sales or opportunities, so it is important for them to keep a hard company of customers' addresses and phone numbers.

In the age of information, keeping and storing it can mean the difference between success and failure for some companies. Having an effective filing method for each business card holder system allows companies to get the data they need, without a lot of wasted time or money.
