Chinese Pilot Training

By Nate Budd

Director of Training for Sunrise Aviation, Patrick Murphy, recently came back from a two week trip to China. During that trip, which was sponsored by Sunrise Aviation's partner in China, Shanghai EasyFly Aviation Technology Co., Ltd., Murphy visited and talked to high school students at two locations. Murphy created presentations to nearly 1200 students approaching high school graduation.

Guangdong Bowen International School in Zhongshan and Sino-Canada High School near Shanghai were among the few schools visited in China were presentations were made. Although a visit was made to the number 3 middle school, Zhuhai, presentations may be made another day.

Sunrise Aviation and Shanghai EasyFly have created an innovative 4 year flight training program for Chinese Pilots that will include intensive English speaking training, a four year bachelor's degree, all pilot ratings including multi-engine commercial pilot and flight instructor, and an internship as a flight instructor. Chinese flight training students will be enrolled at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Sunrise Aviation is the flight exclusive training vendor for Florida State College at Jacksonville where they operate a satellite base for pilot training.

In preparation of the arrival and enrollment of high school graduates from China, a Letter of Intent was recently signed at Florida State College at Jacksonville with Shanghai EasyFly.

Three Chinese students are currently undergoing pilot training at Sunrise Aviation located at Ormond Beach in Florida and the training school at Jacksonville will get its first batch of three Chinese pilot training students only in January 2013.

Though the head office of Shanghai EasyFly Aviation Technology Co. Ltd is in Shanghai, it has a number of sub offices in other provinces as well. The company does a number of services for students who want to become pilots. It finds out pilot training slots for the students abroad, especially in the US. It screens the students to identify students who are eligible for pilot training and prepares them for the journey to the US and the training there. Once they complete their training and return to China, the company helps the students to get their certificates endorsed by the Chinese authorities. The company also helps the pilots to find suitable jobs for them.

Since 1983, Sunrise Aviation has had it's doors open in Florida. They own over 50 aircraft used for flight instruction and aircraft rental. A sister company does charter flights in a Piper Chieftain and King Air B100. Students from around the world come to Sunrise Aviation to complete their pilot training. Besides China, recent students have arrived from Brazil, Panama, Colombia, Bahamas, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE, and India. Sunrise Aviation is approved as a Pilot School by the Federal Aviation Administration and approved to accept foreign students by the US Department of Homeland Security.
