James Malinchak's Meet with with Stedman Graham Part 1

By Rubin Price

James: It is a privilege and honor to have our next special guest here. He's the author of 10 books published in several languages including 2 New York Times bestselling books. His new book that is being released is called Identity: Your Passport to Success. It will be released in the spring.

I saw him speak; we actually spoke on a program together about a month ago or so in Chicago. And as I was sitting there listening to his words it simply so hit me and touched me and inspired and resonated with what I believe we're all about. And I was sitting there thinking "Man, he'd be great to have come and speak for you." I was so excited when he was able to make this date work on his calendar.

Just to give you a few bullet points, he's a former adjunct professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago where he taught a leadership course based on his nine-step process for leadership success. We were talking before about how his leadership principles - this is one of the things I think is really cool - are being taught in schools to help young people to shape and create their future. He's an extremely successful accomplished business person and just has the heart of gold. I'm just so happy to introduce you to him and him to you, so can we please rise up and give a nice, warm, standing welcome to my buddy, Stedman Graham.

Audience: [Applause]

James: Alright, we've got a little special treat. Will everybody have a seat? Stedman agreed to let me just ask him a few questions for a quick little 10-minute interview.

Stedman: Alright.

James: It's just like Inside the Actors Studio.

Stedman: No worries, alright.

James: Wasn't he incredible?

Audience: Yes.

James: I mentioned when I saw him in Chicago when we spoke together I had been just so moved and paying attention to every word. I was like "Boy, he'd be just amazing to bring to you guys," so thank you for being here.

Stedman: Thanks.

James: Who is somebody that genuinely inspired you in your life to be more and do more or conquer a challenge?

Stedman: Well, I've had probably I can say a hundred people that have inspired me. What I realized is that I now have hundreds or more people that inspire me because every time I meet somebody or see somebody I'm trying to pull something from them, so they inspire me. Your people inspire me when they do the work that they do, so I'm looking at inspiration from every single person and because nobody is any special than anybody else. You inspire me when you put this together.

Everybody is the same. Everybody has the unique ability to be able to bring what they bring based on their talents and skills. It's all that and that's a fascinating thing to live in a world where you can be inspired every single day. That's what's relevant and it can be your mother, my father of course has been, people that I have been in business with and have been mentors. Oprah has been such s great inspiration to me and all the people that she knows.

And take a grateful attitude. Be very grateful about what you have and what's available to you. To be able to look at everything as close as possible with a loving attitude that you're grateful for every single situation in the now and not be focused on next week. That's really an important thing. We can create that. That's fine for vision.

Be centered on the present, that you're sitting in those chairs breathing, that you're not sick somewhere in a hospital bed, that you can walk, that you have water right there if you need it because you might be in Haiti where it will be a hard thing if you just wanted water to get it, that you can use the bathroom. We live in America, the greatest country in the world so we have to be grateful for every single thing and that's what happiness is about. The system works here, if you want something to eat you can get it.
