James: Getting into the steps; step one is you need to have a specific goal. You've got to be specific for anything you want to accomplish and in the different areas of your life. For instance, physical, health, recreational is one area. Another is your family life. Another is your social and community life. What sort of contributions are you making to the community? Another one is your financial or materialistic goals and I am not saying you should be materialistic. I'm just saying it's okay to have financial or income goals.
Your third is your vocational, career or business goals. Anything professionally. Another one is your spiritual goals. Another one is your mental and intellectual goals. Your what I call mind growth goals. How are you going to keep growing your mind and expanding and learning more whether it is about business, spirituality or personal life or whatever that might be.
I believe all of the information is out there. I just know. I have read over 2000 books. I read a book a week. I don't read it word for word, but I skim through it now because I learned to look for certain things, but I know that all the information for doing anything you want in life is out there.
It baffles me that people who want to achieve more aren't continuously putting good stuff in their minds. If you want to be a great leader the information is out there. If you want to achieve more and more goals the information is out there on that. If you want to have a better relationship; all the information is out there. There are speakers. There are seminars. There are CD programs. There are books. It is all out there.
I think your intellectual and mental growth, growing your mind is so critical as a goal to have. It is what I call your continuing education. You don't go to school once in your life. You should be in school every single day of your life.
Getting back to step one of getting a specific goal. Lets take financial. Lets take income. You can't just say I want to make more money. What does that mean?
John: So you're saying that is not specific enough.
James: Yes. Exactly. It's not specific enough. John if you say you would like to make more money I'll hand you a quarter right now and you'll have more money. You are not specific. Then you can say I meant I wanted to make an additional $25,000.00 or an extra $100,000.00. Well you were not specific. You said you wanted more money so I gave you a quarter. You've got more money. It's a simple analogy, but it's so profound. You've got to be specific. I mean for each goal that you set.
Lets say you would like to make another $100,000.00. Lets say you'd like to do that in just a year. I'm just making this up. Being specific would be I'll make, not I would like to make, I'll make an extra $100,000.00 in income by and I'm just making this up, by March 15th of next year at 3:00 PM. You should be very, very specific.
Now you focus your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is now centered on trying to determine what we need to do, meaning you and your mind to make it happen.
